Betsey Webster checks on the welfare of the animals and the condition of the emergency shelter set up at Banning Animal Shelter in Banning, Calif. Seized animals from Best Buddies Rescue in Aguanga, Calif., were temporarily housed at Banning Animal Shelter. Linda Bruno called her Pennsylvania cat rescue the land of milk and tuna. It thrived for years as people sent pets they couldn't care for from hundreds of miles away ? unaware it was a death camp for cats.

Military dog comes home from Iraq traumatized

Gina, a highly trained bomb-sniffing dog with the U.S. military, joins Staff Sgt. Chris Kench on a sofa at the kennel at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs. After she came home to Peterson Air Force Base in June 2009, a military veterinarian diagnosed her with post-traumatic stress disorder. Gina was a playful 2-year-old German shepherd when she went to Iraq as a highly trained bomb-sniffing dog with the military. Now, veterinarians say, she has post-traumatic stress disorder.

Three new dog breeds recognized by AKC

Muscular and intelligent, the Cane Corso is native to Italy.
