Great Attack returned $2.60 and $2.10, and Ahvee's Destiny paid $2.40 to show.

It Tiz beat Lilly Fa Pootz by a half-length to win the $79,150 Megahertz Stakes at Santa Anita on Sunday. Ridden by David Flores for trainer Mark Glatt, It Tiz sat fourth for most of the turf mile for fillies and mares, moved up to third at the top of the stretch and took the lead from Lilly Fa Pootz in the final yards to win in 1:34.83.

Marilyn's Guy, the even-money favorite, beat Understatement by a head to win the $47,000 allowance feature on Sunday at Aqueduct. The gray 5-year-old gelding trained by Kiaran McLaughlin got his sixth win in 21 starts. The time was 1:41.58 for the one mile, 70 yards with Eddie Castro aboard. Wilkinson beat Pants on Fire by a head Saturday in the $100,000 Lecomte Stakes, the Fair Grounds' first Kentucky Derby prep of the season. Two-time Eclipse Award winner Miesque has been euthanized because of medical problems from advanced age. She was 27. She was one of the top female runners and was put down Thursday at Lane's End Farm. Miesque (pronounced MEE-esk) won the Breeders' Cup Mile in 1987 and 1988 for trainer Francois Boutin and jockey Freddie Head.

New York Racing Association veterinarians will begin administering Lasix to horses on race day starting Jan. 26. Lasix is a diuretic used to treat pulmonary hemorrhaging in racehorses. NYRA President Charles Hayward says Thursday the measure will eliminate the need for private vets to enter horses' stalls on race day.

Keeneland will begin its 75th season by offering over $3.4 million in purses for the spring meet's 16 stakes races. The meet, which runs from April 8-29, will feature the $750,000 Blue Grass Stakes. The woman who owned Secretariat has created an award to be given annually to the horse whose popularity and racing excellence resonates most with the American public. Penny Chenery said Wednesday the inaugural winner of the Secretariat Vox Populi Award or "Voice of the People" will be given to Zenyatta, who had a 19-1 record before retiring in November.

Santa Anita will add sand to its new dirt track to correct an apparent imbalance of silt and clay, which officials believe was caused by recent heavy rains. Track president George Haines says the work will be done after training hours on Tuesday, where there is no racing. He says the track has been playing too fast and officials want to address the problem gradually.
